Referee Martinez Munuera reported Barcelona supporters after objects were thrown towards Real Madrid players during the visitors’ 2-1 victory at Camp Nou in the first La Liga Clasico of the season.
According to Marca, the incident occurred after Kylian Mbappe scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the 87th minute. Some Barcelona fans in the section where the Real Madrid players were celebrating began throwing items towards the visiting team.
In his official report, Martinez Munuera wrote: “In the 87th minute, while the visiting team were celebrating their goal, a bottle of water and a Coca-Cola can were thrown from the north stand, which was occupied mainly by home supporters, as was clear from their clothing and chants. Neither object hit any player.”
The referee said the incident required the first stage of the protocol for objects being thrown to be activated, and that the match was temporarily suspended.
“Because of these events, the first phase of the object-throwing protocol was activated, and this was announced over the stadium’s public address system,” he added.
“As a result, the match was stopped for one minute and 20 seconds. There were no similar incidents during the remainder of the game.”
Real Madrid’s victory was secured by Mbappe’s second goal, completing a 2-1 win away to Barcelona.
