Paris Saint-Germain have moved away from pursuing Ibrahim Maza, with the Algeria international no longer considered a priority for the club’s immediate recruitment plans.
According to Sky Germany, PSG’s directors are not planning to make an offer for the 20-year-old attacking midfielder. The development represents a significant change from earlier reports that Paris Saint-Germain were showing strong interest in the Bayer Leverkusen player.
The club’s recruitment strategy has been reassessed following the serious injury suffered by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgia winger sustained a rupture of the cruciate ligament during the 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona in the Champions League, leaving him facing a prolonged period on the sidelines.
Luis Enrique is now looking for a player who can make an immediate impact on the left side of the attack. That requirement has altered the club’s priorities in the transfer market.
Maza’s position no longer fits PSG’s immediate need
Maza can operate in several attacking positions, but his preferred role is centrally, where he can play between the lines. His versatility remains an asset, yet his natural positioning does not exactly match the profile of a specialist winger required to cover for Kvaratskhelia.
For that reason, PSG are currently focusing their efforts on finding a replacement for the injured winger rather than opening negotiations for Maza.
The player’s current valuation is €50m, while his contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2030. Despite those details, no move from Paris Saint-Germain is currently being considered for the midfielder.
Maza’s situation therefore appears to have changed considerably. He had emerged as one of the profiles being monitored by the French champions, but the injury to Kvaratskhelia has led the club to place greater emphasis on a different type of attacking player.
Bayer Leverkusen are due to play their seventh Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim shortly. The listed odds for the fixture are 2.10 for a Leverkusen victory, 3.90 for a draw and 3.20 for a Hoffenheim win.
