Kaizer Chiefs maintain perfect start in DStv Diski Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs extended their perfect start to the DStv Diski Challenge with a fifth consecutive victory, defeating Durban City 5-1 at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.

The Amakhosi established control early and went into half-time three goals ahead. Emile Dortley opened the scoring before Neo Bohloko added two more goals to complete his brace.

Chiefs continued to dominate after the interval, with Steve Mendes and Siphelele Mtshari also finding the net as they completed a convincing win over the Team of Choice. The result ensured the Soweto club finished the weekend at the top of the standings once again.

Reigning champions Orlando Pirates ended a two-match winless run with a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the UJ Soweto Campus, bringing Arrows’ three-game winning streak to an end.

The Buccaneers had taken only two victories from their first five matches, while Golden Arrows arrived in confident mood after three successive wins. Orlando Pirates, however, produced the stronger performance and secured the points through Edmilson Chaney’s first-half finish.

AmaZulu’s difficult run continued as they suffered a second straight defeat, losing 1-0 to a revitalised Siwelele FC at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Kurt Lentjies’ side have now gone three matches without a win and slipped to eighth place. Siwelele FC climbed to fourth after Lucky Muthewi converted from the penalty spot in the early stages of the first half to settle the contest in Kwa-Mashu.

TS Galaxy moved into the top five after defeating Kruger United 1-0 at Kanyamazane Stadium.

The result extended Kruger United’s winless run to four matches and left them 12th in the table. TS Galaxy, known as the Rockets, responded to their defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, with Siyabonga Nguessan scoring the decisive goal late in the second half after a goalless opening period.

Sekhukhune United strengthened their position in second place with a 3-0 win over Richards Bay FC at the UJ AW Muller Stadium.

Babina Noko took the lead after eight minutes through Ntando Thwane and held that advantage until half-time. Richards Bay FC, the Natal Rich Boys, struggled to respond, and Timeletso Mepha sealed the points with two late goals. Sekhukhune United are now two points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

In a nine-goal thriller, two-time champions Stellenbosch FC beat Marumo Gallants 5-4 at the TUT Stadium in Tshwane. The victory extended Stellenbosch FC’s unbeaten run to three matches, while Marumo Gallants suffered their third defeat of the season.

Polokwane City also continued their recovery from a poor opening to the campaign by edging debutants Milford FC 1-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium.

The result moved Rise and Shine into the top half of the table and gave them back-to-back victories. Milford FC, known as the Stallions, have now gone three matches without a win.
