Chelsea captain Moises Caicedo says the team must stay focused for the full 90 minutes after their 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.
The result was Chelsea’s first loss at Stamford Bridge this season, with Caicedo leading the side for a second successive match.
The Ecuador international has started Chelsea’s past three games after returning from an early-season injury.
“We need to be focused during the whole game because if you switch off for one second, you get punished,” the 24-year-old told the club website.
Chelsea remain temporarily fourth in the table, one point above fifth-placed Liverpool. Liverpool host third-placed Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on Sunday.
Caicedo said the players understood where they had fallen short and needed to respond quickly, with a Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie against Liverpool at Anfield next on Wednesday.
“We need to learn from this because we need to stop this from happening and we need to maintain the clean sheet for the whole game,” he said.
“It was a tough one, but we need to keep going because there are more games in front of us and we want to do better.
“Everybody knows what we need to improve. We are going to think about this game because we need to be up there in the table. We need to learn from this and for sure we are going to be up there [at the end of the season].”
