Al Ahli Tripoli ease past Welwalo Adigrat as Fiston Mayele inspires comeback

Al Ahli Tripoli reached the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Welwalo Adigrat 4-1 in Saturday’s second-leg tie in the second preliminary round.

The Libyan side had already secured a 4-0 victory in the first meeting and completed an 8-1 aggregate triumph over the Ethiopian club.

Welwalo Adigrat made the stronger start in the return match, taking a 1-0 lead and briefly putting Al Ahli Tripoli under pressure. Fiston Mayele then levelled for the hosts, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo international’s goal restoring momentum to his side.

Al Ahli Tripoli took control after the equaliser and finished the match strongly, adding three more goals to secure another comfortable victory over Welwalo Adigrat.

The result confirms Al Ahli Tripoli’s progress in the competition and underlines their ambitions on the continental stage. Welwalo Adigrat’s campaign ends with a second defeat by the Libyan club, who proved the more effective team across both legs.
