Arsenal moved level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after a 2-0 win over Everton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The defending champions have now taken 21 points from their opening eight league fixtures, with the victory giving them seven wins in that run.
Ezri Konsa put Arsenal ahead in the seventh minute after a corner led to a prolonged scramble inside the Everton penalty area. The defender eventually bundled the ball over the line to give the hosts an early advantage.
Arsenal controlled much of the first half and created enough opportunities to have extended their lead before the interval. Everton, however, remained within touching distance of an equaliser.
Goalkeeper David Raya played an important role in keeping Arsenal in front, making saves to deny James Garner and Tyrique George as the visitors attempted to respond.
Everton’s hopes of recovering from the deficit were ended with just over 20 minutes remaining, when Gabriel Magalhaes doubled Arsenal’s advantage. The centre-back rose to meet Ben White’s cross and headed the ball into the net, joining Konsa on the scoresheet.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall came close to reducing the deficit late on, but his flicked header went narrowly wide.
Arsenal saw out the remainder of the match to secure a deserved victory and strengthen their position as favourites to retain the Premier League title.
