AS Monaco and Lille OSC, two of Ligue 1’s five joint leaders, face each other at the Stade Louis II on Sunday in a key fixture from the eighth round of the 2026-27 season. Nasser Eddy, a consultant for NCI Sport and presenter of the UEFA Champions League on radio Nostalgie, has backed a draw in the meeting scheduled for 25 October 2026.
Monaco made an impressive start, winning four of their first five league matches, including victories over Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille and RC Lens. However, they have taken only one point from their past two games, drawing 2-2 with Toulouse before losing 1-0 at Lorient last Sunday.
Their European form has been stronger. Monaco have won all four of their UEFA Conference League matches, including Thursday’s 3-0 home victory over Freiburg in the league phase. They have scored more than two goals in eight matches this season, failed to score only once and have scored in 10 of their 11 official games. Paris Brunner has six goals in seven appearances. Monaco have averaged fewer than four corners in their past four matches and have received at least one yellow card in each of those games.
Lille’s recent run has been less convincing since the international break, following the departures of players including Bouaddi and Fernandez-Pardo. Their only league win in that period was a narrow 1-0 success against Le Havre on 10 October. They then drew 1-1 with Brest at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy last Saturday.
The Dogues have also suffered two defeats in the UEFA Champions League: a 3-0 loss at Arsenal last week and a 4-2 home defeat by Galatasaray on Wednesday. Across their past four official matches, Lille have scored four goals and conceded eight. They have attempted at least 10 shots in each of their three Ligue 1 away games, while winning no more than seven corners in each. They have picked up at least one yellow card in six of their seven league matches, and at least two in each of their past three official games.
Lille hold a narrow advantage in the last 35 meetings in all competitions, with 14 wins to Monaco’s 11 and 10 draws. Lille have won the past three encounters, including both meetings last season, and are unbeaten in the last four. Neither side has scored more than twice in any of the previous seven fixtures.
Ansu Fati is the player to watch after scoring against Freiburg and CSKA Sofia in Monaco’s past two Conference League matches. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, once regarded as a major prospect at FC Barcelona, has continued rebuilding his career in Monaco after a succession of injuries.
The recommended bets are a draw at 3.44, a 2-2 scoreline at 11, Paris Brunner to score at 2.8, both teams to receive at least two cards at 2, under 7.5 corners at 2.98, and a match start of 25 October 2026 at 14:00 GMT in the fixture listing. The earlier preview gives the scheduled time as 20:00 GMT. Odds may change.
