Amine Adli scores stunning free-kick as Bournemouth thrash AC Milan 3-0 in Europa League
Moroccan international Amine Adli was on target as Bournemouth recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Italian giants AC Milan at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday evening in the third round of the UEFA Europa League league phase.
The Cherries delivered a dominant performance against the Italian side, taking advantage of a first-half red card to secure their third consecutive victory in the competition and strengthen their position in the league-phase standings.
Bournemouth made a fast start to the encounter, opening the scoring in the eighth minute through Justin Kluivert, who calmly converted a penalty to give the hosts an early advantage.
The Premier League side continued to put Milan under pressure, forcing the visitors to defend deep as they searched for a response.
However, Milan’s hopes of recovering from the early setback suffered a major blow in the 27th minute when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off following an altercation with a Bournemouth player.
The dismissal left the Italian outfit with 10 men and further complicated their efforts to contain the hosts, who capitalised on the situation to increase their advantage.
Bournemouth were awarded another penalty, which Kluivert converted in the 32nd minute to complete his brace and put the home side firmly in control before the break.
With a numerical advantage and a two-goal cushion, Bournemouth dictated proceedings for much of the remaining contest, limiting Milan’s opportunities to mount a comeback.
Adli, who started the match on the bench before being introduced as a substitute, made his impact felt late in the game.
The Moroccan forward produced a moment of quality in the 84th minute, curling a brilliant free-kick into the net to complete Bournemouth’s 3-0 victory and put the result beyond doubt.
The goal marked Adli’s first of the season across all competitions, providing a timely boost for the Moroccan international as he continues to establish himself at Bournemouth.
His late contribution capped an impressive evening for the Cherries, who demonstrated their attacking quality and ability to punish their opponents’ mistakes.
The victory extended Bournemouth’s winning run in the Europa League to three consecutive matches, leaving them in a strong position as the competition progresses.
Following the result, Bournemouth moved to nine points from three matches, occupying fourth place in the standings.
AC Milan, meanwhile, remained on three points in 22nd position after suffering their second defeat in three matches, having recorded just one victory in their opening fixtures.
For Adli, the spectacular strike represents an important personal milestone, while Bournemouth will hope to maintain their impressive European form in their upcoming fixtures.
