Kaizer Chiefs hand professional contract to South Africa Under-20 midfielder Teboho Mlangeni

Kaizer Chiefs have rewarded promising midfielder Teboho Mlangeni with his first professional contract at the club.

The 18-year-old, who comes from Zondi in Soweto, recently helped South Africa’s Under-20 side, Amajita, win the COSAFA Cup in Mozambique. That success also secured qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Mlangeni’s progress has now been recognised by Kaizer Chiefs, with the midfielder earning a contract at the club’s Naturena base.

“Congratulations to Teboho Mlangeni on a well-deserved DDC contract,” his representatives, P Management, said in a post on social media.

Mlangeni has already featured for Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team, although he had previously remained part of the club’s youth structures. His appearances were mainly made in the Gauteng Development League (GDL), but he has now moved up to the DDC setup.

The promotion gives him an opportunity to continue his development while working towards a potential place in the Kaizer Chiefs first team.

“It’s a step up for him. He’s definitely one for the future,” a source said.

Mlangeni joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2024 after moving from the Augusto Palacios Academy. The DDC agreement is understood to be the first professional contract he has signed with the Phefeni Glamour Boys.

His rise at club level has been matched by his involvement with South Africa’s national youth teams. Before representing Amajita, Mlangeni played for the Under-17 side, Amajimbos.

He was also included in South Africa’s squad for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, further underlining his status as one of the country’s emerging young players.

The midfielder’s latest contract places him closer to senior football at Kaizer Chiefs after progressing through the club’s development system. His recent international success with Amajita and his move into the DDC squad have marked the latest stages of his development since arriving at Naturena.
