Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is facing fears that he may have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during his side’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The Georgia international is due to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging scan on Wednesday. However, the initial medical assessments are reported to have provided little cause for optimism.
If the injury is confirmed, Kvaratskhelia is expected to miss the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old was injured before the hour mark after colliding with Barcelona full-back Xavi Espart. He immediately reached for his knee and appeared to be in considerable pain.
Kvaratskhelia was unable to put any weight on his right leg and had to be carried from the pitch.
The winger has played a central role in Paris Saint-Germain’s campaign and was instrumental in helping the club secure two Champions League titles.
