Carling Knockout: Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns drawn on same day

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed the schedule and venues for the Carling Knockout last-16 ties, with Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns all playing on Tuesday, 27 October.

The competition begins on Saturday, 24 October, when Lamontville Golden Arrows host Chippa United at the King Zwelithini Stadium. The opening match will kick off at 15h00.

Polokwane City then face Siwelele FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the second fixture of the day scheduled for 18h00.

The PSL announced the full details on Tuesday afternoon, with the first match of the round taking place as early as Saturday.

Sunday’s programme starts at 15h00, as tournament debutants Kruger United take on AmaZulu FC at Mbombela Stadium. Sekhukhune United will then meet Richards Bay FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 18h00.

Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns in simultaneous ties

All three of the competition’s high-profile sides will be in action at 19h00 on Tuesday, 27 October.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates begin their title defence against Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena. Pirates won the tournament last season after beating Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the final.

At the same time, Kaizer Chiefs will welcome TS Galaxy FC to the FNB Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs are 13-time historical league cup record-holders.

Mamelodi Sundowns, meanwhile, host Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in a first-round rematch between last season’s finalists.

The simultaneous kick-offs mean the three leading fixtures will take place at separate venues on the same evening, with each winner advancing to the quarter-finals.

Durban City complete the line-up

The last of the eight last-16 matches will be played on Wednesday, 28 October.

Durban City FC will face Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium, with the match also due to begin at 19h00.

Durban City FC will be looking to make use of home advantage as they pursue a place in the quarter-finals, while Stellenbosch FC will attempt to secure the final remaining position in the next round.

The result of that match will complete the Carling Knockout quarter-final line-up.
