Al Ahly, Mohamed Hany disagree over clause in new contract

Al Ahly and Mohamed Hany are yet to reach an agreement over a new contract, with a participation clause emerging as the major obstacle in negotiations between the Egyptian giants and their long-serving right-back.

The Egyptian football giants remain in talks with the enterprising defender over contract renewal. The proposed deal is reportedly worth EGP 25 million, but Al Ahly want the defender’s earnings to be tied to his appearances, insisting that he must meet a specific participation threshold to receive the full amount.

Under the proposed conditions, Hany could face a significant deduction if he fails to feature in at least 60 per cent of the team’s matches.

The 30-year-old is understood to be unhappy with the arrangement, particularly because he believes some of his teammates have been exempted from similar conditions.

The disagreement has delayed progress in the negotiations, although both parties remain interested in extending their relationship.

Hany is reportedly keen to stay at Al Ahly, while the club also want to retain the experienced defender as they continue to compete for domestic and continental honours.

The right-back has made 410 appearances for the Cairo-based outfit, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad and a regular member of Egypt’s national team.

His experience, consistency and leadership have strengthened his position at the club, with his performances continuing to make him an important part of the team’s plans.

Meanwhile, speculation linking Hany with a possible move to Pyramids FC has emerged amid the uncertainty surrounding his future. However, there has been no confirmation of a transfer agreement, and the defender is reportedly committed to remaining at Al Ahly.

With both sides keen to continue their partnership, the coming discussions are expected to focus on resolving the participation clause, which remains the principal sticking point in the proposed renewal.

An agreement would secure Hany’s future at the club, but Al Ahly must first find common ground with the defender over the financial conditions of his new deal.
