Roberto De Zerbi has reassured Tottenham supporters that Omar Marmoush did not suffer a serious injury after being forced off during the 3-1 Premier League victory over Coventry City.
Marmoush left the match after scoring his first goal for Tottenham, but De Zerbi said there was no reason for concern over the forward’s condition.
“I think there are no injuries, nothing to worry about,” the Tottenham manager said in comments published on the club’s website.
The victory ended a difficult start to Tottenham’s campaign. They had been the only team yet to win during the opening six rounds of the Premier League, having recorded three draws and three defeats.
It was also Tottenham’s first league victory since May 2026, when they beat Everton 1-0 during the previous season. The result lifted them to six points and 16th place, moving them away from the bottom of the table. Coventry City dropped to 17th, behind Tottenham on goal difference.
De Zerbi explained that his tactical plan included three defenders, one midfielder and three players operating in the spaces between the lines. Those advanced roles were given to Marmoush, James Maddison and Archie Gray.
“I prepared for the match with a plan involving three defenders at the back, one midfielder and three players between the lines: Omar Marmoush, James Maddison and Archie Gray,” he said.
“Usually, these three players are completely different. Marmoush is more inclined towards attacking, while Maddison is good between the lines and at linking with the defenders, as well as Tonali. Archie Gray’s role is to move forward and try to help Mohammed Kudus.”
Maddison and Marmoush both scored for Tottenham, while Ben Davies completed the home side’s three-goal tally. Jack Rodon scored Coventry City’s only goal.
Maddison’s goal ended a 610-day wait for him to score, dating back to his previous goal against Manchester United in February 2025.
Marmoush also ended a 156-day spell without scoring for his teams and marked the occasion with his first goal in a Tottenham shirt.
De Zerbi praised the attacking players’ contribution and highlighted Kudus’ display, particularly after half-time.
“Marmoush and Maddison managed to score, and I also liked Kudus’ performance, especially in the second half, because I think finding space was extremely difficult in the first half,” the Italian added.
