Zamalek are considering appointing Modern Sport manager Mohamed Amin Benhachem as part of plans for a new technical project, according to Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab.
The Moroccan coach has emerged as one of the club’s leading options as Zamalek assess the possibility of bringing him in to take charge of the team.
Benhachem became Modern Sport manager before the start of the current season, replacing Ahmed Sami. His work has attracted attention after the club made a positive start under his leadership.
Modern Sport have recorded four wins, one draw and one defeat with Benhachem in charge. Those results have helped them move into fourth place in the Egyptian Premier League table on 13 points.
The role at Modern Sport is Benhachem’s first experience outside the Moroccan league. Before moving to Egypt, he managed a number of clubs in Morocco, including Fath Rabat, Renaissance Zemamra, Olympique Khouribga, Ittihad Tanger and Olympique Safi.
He also coached Wydad last season during the FIFA Club World Cup. Benhachem left the Moroccan club in March after their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup by Olympique Safi.
The performances produced by Modern Sport since his appointment have reportedly led several major clubs to take an interest in the coach. Zamalek are now studying whether he is the right candidate to lead their next project.
Al-Mountakhab said Benhachem’s name has been placed among Zamalek’s prominent options, although the report did not state that an agreement had been reached.
