Udinese have announced that David Alaba has suffered a muscle injury and will begin a rehabilitation programme.
The Austria defender picked up the injury during Udinese’s match against Lecce, which they lost 3-0 in the seventh round of Serie A.
Alaba has been diagnosed with an injury to his calf. His condition will be assessed on a weekly basis before a decision is made on when he can return to competitive action.
The 33-year-old joined Udinese from Real Madrid on a free transfer and had made only two appearances for the club before sustaining the injury.
The latest setback continues a run of injuries Alaba has experienced in recent years while playing for Real Madrid.
Udinese are 16th in the Serie A table with four points, level on goal difference with 18th-placed Lecce, the position leading to relegation.
