Omar Marmoush celebrates Tottenham’s first Premier League win more than debut goal

Omar Marmoush says Tottenham’s first Premier League victory of the season gave him greater satisfaction than scoring his first goal for the London club.

Tottenham ended their wait for a win by beating Coventry City 3-1 at the conclusion of the seventh round, with Marmoush among the scorers as the team secured their first three points of the campaign.

“I am pleased to have scored, but I am even happier because we won the match and claimed our first three points of the season,” the Egypt international told beIN SPORTS.

Marmoush added: “We have worked hard throughout the recent period and played some good matches, but the results did not reflect that.”

James Maddison opened the scoring for Tottenham before Marmoush added a second. Ben Davies completed the hosts’ three-goal total, while Jack Rudoni scored Coventry City’s only goal.

The result ended Tottenham’s run without a victory. They had been the only team in the division yet to win after six rounds, having recorded three draws and three defeats.

It was also Tottenham’s first Premier League win since May 2026, when they beat Everton 1-0 in the previous season.

Maddison’s goal was his first in 610 days. His previous goal had come against Manchester United in February 2025.

For Marmoush, the goal ended a 156-day wait for a goal at club level and marked his first since joining Tottenham.

The victory moved Tottenham to six points and lifted them to 16th place, while Coventry City dropped to 17th on goal difference. Tottenham had previously occupied last place.

Marmoush said the team’s training camp in Marbella the previous week had helped strengthen their understanding and cohesion.

“We wanted to become more connected and adapt to one another from the start of the season, but with the pressure of matches and training, we had not managed to do that well,” he said.

“The camp helped us grow closer as players, both personally and technically. It allowed a collective spirit to develop within the team and made us stronger, which was what happened against Coventry City.”

Speaking to Tottenham’s official channel, Marmoush thanked the club’s supporters for their backing during a difficult opening to the season.

“I thank the Tottenham fans for their support throughout the past weeks, and I promise them that we will give 100% to win many matches,” he said.
