Former Zamalek and Egypt national team star Ahmed Hossam “Mido” urged athletes to support Hossam Hassan after his appointment as the head coach of the Egyptian national team, succeeding the Portuguese coach Roy Vitoria, who was dismissed.
Speaking on “Al Mehwar” TV channel, Mido stated, “Today, Egypt’s legend Hossam Hassan, Africa celebrates him and takes pride in his presence.
All Egyptians should take pride in the image of Hossam Hassan, who was at the African Cup of Nations final.”
He continued, “A great star and a legend like Hossam Hassan is honored by the African Union.
He is present at the most important event in Africa, the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations, his picture is displayed at the stadium.
Everyone is proud that Hossam Hassan is an African except us.”
Mido went on to say, “Our stars always face criticism. Hossam Hassan, appointed as the coach of the Egyptian national team, is subjected to a fierce campaign, not from the public but from some who have an interest in ensuring that no star with a strong personality takes charge of the team.”
He elaborated, “Some have an interest in not having a strong personality or a star leading the Egyptian national team.
They are afraid of stars, they are afraid of legends.
Egypt has many legends, but they are deliberately kept away from the scene because some people do not know how to deal with stars.”
Mido emphasized, “Hossam Hassan, a star and a legend, will succeed with the Egyptian national team.
Supporting Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan for success with the national team is a national duty.
I am not worried about the public regarding Hossam and Ibrahim. Since the death of Mahmoud El-Gohary, the only coach who deserves respect is Hossam Hassan.”
