Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo ruled out for eight weeks with knee injury

Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo could miss up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in Saturday’s Premier League victory over Ipswich Town, manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

The Ghana international sustained the injury during the match, raising concerns over his availability for City’s upcoming fixtures as he begins his recovery.

Maresca admitted the club had initially feared a more serious setback but said medical assessments had provided some relief.

“After the scan we feel much better because it’s not as bad as we expected,” the City manager said.

“It could be eight weeks, so now the most important thing is for him to recover.”

The potential lay-off would represent a significant setback for Semenyo, who will now face a race against time to return to action as Manchester City navigate a demanding run of domestic and European matches.

Although the precise duration of his absence remains uncertain, Maresca’s assessment suggests the winger could spend a considerable period on the sidelines.

Semenyo faces lengthy spell on sidelines

Semenyo’s injury came during City’s victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, forcing the club to assess the extent of the damage before determining the next steps in his rehabilitation.

The initial concern surrounding the knee problem was heightened by the possibility of a more serious injury. However, the results of the scan offered encouragement, with Maresca indicating that the situation was less severe than the club had feared.

Despite the improved outlook, the City boss warned that Semenyo could still be unavailable for as long as eight weeks.

The winger will now prioritise his recovery, with his return dependent on his progress during rehabilitation.

Manchester City will have to consider their attacking options during his absence, particularly if the Ghanaian requires the full recovery period outlined by Maresca.

The injury is also an unwelcome development for Semenyo, who will be eager to return to fitness and resume his contribution to the team’s campaign.

Haaland offers City encouragement

While Semenyo faces a potentially lengthy absence, Manchester City have received a more encouraging update on Erling Haaland.

The striker left the pitch limping during Saturday’s match after taking a blow to his foot, prompting concerns about his availability for the club’s next fixture.

However, Maresca has not ruled out Haaland featuring in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against AEK Athens.

“He can be available,” Maresca said ahead of the European encounter.

“We have a session now and we’ll see.”

Haaland’s availability will depend on how he responds during training, with the manager indicating that a final assessment would follow the session.

His potential return would provide City with a boost as they prepare for their Champions League assignment, particularly with Semenyo facing a spell on the sidelines.
