Jordan Henderson says Chelsea are developing into a more united side after returning from injury to help them claim successive Premier League victories.
The midfielder scored twice and set up another goal in Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 win over Bournemouth, making an outstanding home debut after recovering from an arm injury suffered while on international duty with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He then featured as Xabi Alonso’s team defeated previously unbeaten Everton 2-0, securing consecutive league victories for the first time.
“I’m loving playing football at the minute,” Henderson said.
“It’s an absolute privilege and honour to be playing with some of the players in this team. I’m just enjoying it, working with them every day and playing with them out on the pitch.”
Chelsea made significant changes to their squad and coaching staff over the summer, but Henderson believes those additions are beginning to form a stronger collective.
“There’s some top quality, top talent, here, and I really feel like the team’s beginning to take shape in terms of the togetherness and everything,” he said.
“There’s been a lot of new change in the summer – new coaching staff and players coming in – but I really feel that the togetherness is coming, not only in training during the week on the field, off the field as well.”
Henderson says that sense of unity will be important as Chelsea try to maintain their progress under Alonso. However, the midfielder accepts there is still considerable work to do.
“I know we’ve still got a lot to improve on as a team, but I feel as though in the last couple of weeks we’re going in the right direction,” he said.
Chelsea’s victory against Everton followed their five-goal display against Bournemouth and gave them momentum after a summer of transition.
Their next test comes on Saturday, when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will be aiming to make it three league wins in a row.
