Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says Yan Diomande must improve his finishing despite the winger scoring and providing an assist in Sunday’s 4-1 La Liga win over Sevilla.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international created Real Madrid’s opening goal for Arda Guler before adding a goal of his own in the 84th minute.
However, Mourinho believes Diomande still has significant room for development, particularly in his ability to take advantage of opportunities in the final third.
“I am very happy with Diomande. He has a lot to work on, and he has many things he needs to improve. He needs to work on his finishing,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese manager also urged the winger to be more composed when he reaches dangerous positions.
“He gets to a lot of dangerous positions, but he needs to learn to relax more and make a better decision in last touch,” he added.
Diomande joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig in a high-value transfer and has impressed with his movement and ability to trouble opposition defences.
His performance against Sevilla, featuring both a goal and an assist, highlighted his attacking potential, although Mourinho wants the teenager to become more clinical.
Real Madrid’s next fixture is against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League league stage at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
The match will give Diomande another chance to build on his contribution in the victory over Sevilla and continue his development under Mourinho.
