Eric Tinkler urges Durban City to cut out complacency after CAF Confederation Cup win
Durban City head coach Eric Tinkler has warned his side they must be more clinical and disciplined after beginning their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over AS Port Louis 2000.
The victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday was Tinkler’s first since taking charge of Durban City and gives his team a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg in Mauritius.
Haashim Domingo opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Gaston Sirino doubled the lead shortly after half-time, finding the net in the 46th minute. Tashreeq Morris added a third in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Despite the convincing result, Tinkler told KZN media he was unhappy with the number of chances Durban City failed to convert during the first-leg, second-round preliminary tie.
The coach also criticised what he viewed as complacency from his players and identified the goal conceded by Durban City as an issue that must be addressed before the return match.
Durban City will now travel to Mauritius with a 3-1 lead, but Tinkler believes the tie is not yet settled. He stressed the importance of scoring away from home, saying another goal could potentially put the outcome beyond doubt.
The club are aiming to secure a place in the group stages of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
