Kaizer Chiefs name starting XI for CAF Confederation Cup opener against Red Arrows FC
Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their starting XI for their CAF Confederation Cup first-round meeting with Red Arrows FC at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
The South African side were given a bye through the first preliminary round after being included among the seeded teams for the draw. They now begin their campaign against a Red Arrows team that reached the second round with a 4-0 aggregate victory over FC Rogue last month.
Chiefs arrive in Zambia after a difficult run of form in the domestic league, having drawn each of their past three matches. Coach Fernando da Cruz is also without three midfielders, with Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko all unavailable because of injury.
Red Arrows played during the international break but were held to a goalless draw by Mufulira Wanderers F.C last weekend.
Chiefs will start with Leaner in goal behind a defence of Monyane, Miguel, Moloisane and Cross. Mako, Mthethwe and Frosler are selected in midfield, while Vilakazi, Shabalala and Baartman form the attacking options.
Kaizer Chiefs starting XI: Leaner, Monyane, Miguel, Moloisane, Cross, Mako, Mthethwe, Frosler, Vilakazi, Shabalala, Baartman.
Substitutes: Bvuma, Dortley, Nkgwesa, Mabaso, Velebayi, Abrahams, Igodaro, Da Silva, Duba.
