Leeds United reach initial agreement with Daniel Farke over contract extension

Leeds United have reached an initial agreement with manager Daniel Farke on a contract extension that would keep him at the club until 2029.

Farke’s current deal is due to expire at the end of this season. However, formal procedures still need to be completed before the new contract can be signed.

The Athletic reports that both parties have reached a broad agreement over how the extension will be structured, with the remaining steps understood to be administrative rather than a question of principle.

Farke addressed the possibility of a new contract in August, saying he had intended to discuss the matter during the next international break in September.

“I don’t think about my contract for a single second. I have a contract, and for a Leeds United head coach, if you last three months, you are on the right path,” he said.

“I am already one of the longest-serving Leeds United head coaches of the past three decades. My contract ends in more than 10 months, so we have plenty of time.”

The German took charge of Leeds United in July 2023. During his first season, he guided the club to the Championship play-offs, but Leeds lost in the final.

They secured promotion the following season after finishing with 100 points.

Leeds’ first campaign back in the Premier League ended with a 14th-place finish. The team produced strong results during the second half of the season, collecting 45 points from 31 matches after a poor start had placed Farke’s position under pressure.

Leeds United have begun this season in seventh place in the Premier League. They have suffered one defeat in their opening six matches, losing to Arsenal.

Their next fixture is against rivals Manchester United in the seventh round of the Premier League.
