Alphadjo Cisse became the youngest Italian to score a hat-trick in a European competition as AC Milan beat Salzburg 4-0 on the second matchday of the Europa League.
The 19-year-old’s outstanding display from an advanced midfield role helped the Rossoneri recover from their disappointing home defeat by Benfica at San Siro.
Cisse, who was 19 years and 358 days old, set the new record according to TNT Sports. He surpassed the previous mark established by Giancarlo Danova, who was 20 years and 309 days old when he scored three goals in September 1959.
The performance also made Cisse the first AC Milan player to score a European hat-trick since Filippo Inzaghi’s treble against Deportivo La Coruna in September 2002.
Cisse’s rapid rise at AC Milan
The forward opened the scoring early in Salzburg, heading the ball into the net. He added a second from close range shortly before half-time before completing his hat-trick with a right-footed strike soon after the interval.
Born in Treviso and of Guinean origin, Cisse was bought back by AC Milan in February and then loaned to Catanzaro in Serie B. He became a permanent member of the Milan first-team squad this summer.
His European breakthrough follows a promising start in Serie A, where he has scored two goals in five appearances. The hat-trick in Salzburg further underlined his growing importance within the squad.
AC Milan will next play their seventh match of the Italian league season against Atalanta.
