Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is determined to extend his remarkable goalscoring run after setting a new record in Turkish football with Bursaspor.

The Nigerian striker scored twice and supplied an assist as Bursaspor secured a commanding 3-0 away victory over Muğlaspor on Thursday, extending his scoring streak to 10 consecutive matches in the Turkish First League.

Iheanacho’s latest performance saw him surpass the previous record of nine consecutive scoring games jointly associated with Turkish football legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.

The former Leicester City and Manchester City forward has enjoyed an outstanding start to the season, establishing himself as a key figure in Bursaspor’s promotion push.

His latest contribution also helped the club climb to second place in the league standings with 22 points, strengthening their position in the race for promotion.

Speaking after the match, Iheanacho expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and his personal contribution, while insisting that he hopes to maintain his goalscoring form as the campaign progresses.

Iheanacho inspires Bursaspor after difficult first half

Bursaspor struggled to find a breakthrough before the interval but returned from the break with greater attacking purpose to overwhelm their hosts.

Iheanacho broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, finishing a move created by Halil Akbunar to give the visitors the lead.

The Nigeria international struck again in the 79th minute to double Bursaspor’s advantage before turning provider four minutes later, setting up Hüseyin Maldar to complete the 3-0 victory.

His two goals and an assist ensured Bursaspor secured all three points while extending his extraordinary scoring sequence.

Reflecting on the result, Iheanacho acknowledged the challenge posed by Muğlaspor but praised his teammates for their improved performance after the break.

“It was a great performance, especially in the second half. It was difficult in the first half, but we controlled the game very well in the second half and scored the goals.” he told beIN SPORTS.

“We’re happy to win. They are a strong side, and we won away from home today, so we’re really happy.”

Beyond the historic milestone, Iheanacho remains focused on helping Bursaspor maintain their momentum and secure more points in the league.
