Union Saint-Gilloise take on Real Sociedad in Europa League test of ambition

Union Saint-Gilloise host Real Sociedad at Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven on Thursday, 15 October 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 16:45 GMT in the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League league phase.

The Belgian side made a positive start to the competition and will be looking to build on that result as they seek to strengthen their position in the group. Real Sociedad, meanwhile, are aiming to kick-start their European campaign and return to Spain with a positive outcome.

Union Saint-Gilloise are expected to rely on their high-intensity pressing, physical commitment and ability to move forward quickly. Their intention will be to put Real Sociedad under pressure from the opening minutes and prevent the visitors from settling into the match.

The Spanish side’s response is likely to centre on technical quality and possession. Real Sociedad will look to control the ball and disrupt the rhythm of their opponents, making the midfield contest potentially decisive.

The match will therefore bring together Union Saint-Gilloise’s intensity and Real Sociedad’s emphasis on technical control.
