Nawaf Al-Aqidi has been given two possible treatment routes after suffering an elbow injury while playing for Saudi Arabia in the Gulf 27.
The Al Nassr goalkeeper came off injured in the 78th minute of Saudi Arabia’s 1-0 victory over Kuwait in the opening match of the tournament.
According to Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiyah, Al-Aqidi was assessed at a specialist medical centre in London after travelling to Britain for further tests.
The doctor treating him presented two options following the examination.
The first is a four-week rehabilitation programme focused on the injured area. However, there is a 50% chance that the pain could return after the rehabilitation has been completed.
The alternative is surgery, followed by a rehabilitation programme. The length of Al-Aqidi’s absence would be determined during that process.
The Saudi Arabia international suffered a tear in his elbow while representing his country at the Gulf 27, which Saudi Arabia went on to win.
