Aurelien Tchouameni declines to reveal Real Madrid midfield opinion
Aurelien Tchouameni has declined to reveal whether he believes Real Madrid need a more creative midfielder, despite admitting he has an opinion on the issue.
Speaking before Real Madrid’s Champions League trip to Roma, the France international was asked whether the squad lacks a player capable of unlocking defences from midfield. He said: “I have my opinion on the question, but it is up to you to do your job and say what we need.”
Tchouameni added that Real’s midfielders give everything and stressed the importance of collective work rather than individual profiles. “We have very high-level players in certain areas, but the most important thing is to work as a team in midfield,” he said.
When pressed again, the 26-year-old refused to expand. “I will not talk about this subject. The most important thing is tomorrow’s match,” he said, directing reporters to coach José Mourinho or club president Florentino Perez.
Real opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Inter and now face a difficult away test in Rome. Tchouameni said Roma are a strong side, but believes Madrid have enough quality to win.
He also admitted the team can improve in possession, saying they have not yet reached their best level this season.
