Kelyann Bezahaf makes Marseille breakthrough as Algeria Under-23 defender targets bigger role
Kelyann Bezahaf has taken a significant step in his development after making his first start for Olympique de Marseille in their 2-0 victory over Troyes.
The 20-year-old Algerian right-back impressed during the match and earned praise for his performance, having taken his opportunity with the first team.
Speaking to Maghreb-Foot, Bezahaf’s agent welcomed the defender’s progress since he signed his first professional contract. He said the player was gradually becoming part of the senior squad and continuing to build experience with each appearance.
The appearance against Troyes represented an important moment in that progression, as Bezahaf moved closer to establishing himself within Marseille’s professional group.
A modern full-back
Bეზahaf’s representative also highlighted the qualities that have helped him advance at the club. He described the defender as a modern full-back, capable of carrying the ball forward and contributing in attacking areas.
The agent also pointed to Bezahaf’s strength in challenges and his physical power, attributes which could aid his continued development under Bruno Genesio.
The defender’s ambitions now extend to securing more playing time for Marseille and progressing with Algeria. He is already regarded as an important member of the Algeria Under-23 team and is aiming to confirm his potential by reaching further milestones in his career.
Bეზahaf remains under contract with Olympique de Marseille until 30 June 2028.
Marseille’s next fixture will be their Ligue 1 match against Angers on matchday seven, giving Bezahaf another potential opportunity to continue his integration into the first-team squad.
