Tunisia left searching for solutions after two draws in AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Tunisia began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign without a win after drawing 1-1 with Uganda and 2-2 with Botswana.

The results leave Mouine Chaabani’s side with work to do if they are to remain in contention for a place at the tournament.

Tunisia opened their campaign at home against Uganda and took the lead through Adem Arous in the 12th minute. Uganda responded after the break, with Rogers Mato equalising in the 68th minute.

The Carthage Eagles were held again in their second Group H fixture, this time by Botswana. They fell behind when Thatayaone Kgamanyane scored in the 37th minute, but Hazem Mastouri’s two goals turned the match around for Tunisia.

Botswana eventually rescued a point through Lebogang Ditsele, leaving both teams level on two points after the opening two rounds.

A planned friendly against Mali, scheduled for 3 October in Rades, was cancelled by mutual agreement between the two football federations following consultations with the respective coaches.

Tunisia therefore played two matches during the international window from 21 September to 6 October 2026, but were unable to record a victory.

Uganda lead Group H with four points. Tunisia and Botswana have two points each, while Libya are bottom with one point after two matches.

Tunisia’s results during the international window were:

– Tunisia 1-1 Uganda 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying – Tunisia 2-2 Botswana 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying – Tunisia v Mali friendly cancelled

The next two Group H fixtures will see Tunisia face Libya twice in November.

Tunisia host Libya on 11 November 2026 before travelling to face them on 15 November 2026.
