UJ defeat TUT 4-2 in Hollywoodbets Super League six-goal thriller

The University of Johannesburg claimed a 4-2 home victory over the Tshwane University of Technology in the only Hollywoodbets Super League fixture played last weekend.

The league is officially on a break during the October FIFA window, with Banyana Banyana preparing for the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Madagascar.

South Africa hold a commanding advantage in the two-legged second-round tie after winning the opening match 4-0 in Bloemfontein last week. The return fixture will take place at the same venue on Tuesday, 13 October.

UJ took maximum points from their meeting with TUT at UJ Stadium in Soweto, moving third in the Super Rise stream with 17 points from 10 matches.

Lusanda Mavundla put the hosts in front before TUT responded through Sibongile Ntoane to bring the score level.

The Orange Army restored their advantage after Mpho Dlamini was fouled inside the penalty area, with Player of the Match Portia Masilela converting from the spot.

Asanda Mchunu then added UJ’s third goal, before Kutlwano Maphane scored what proved to be the winner.

TUT reduced the deficit late in the match when Nombuso Malesa found the net, but the visitors were unable to complete a comeback.

UJ are now five points behind pool leaders JVW FC after 10 outings.

The result leaves TUT, also known as the Red Army, third from bottom on 11 points. They are level with Ezemvelo Women’s FC, who sit immediately behind them, with both teams having played 10 matches.
