Elye Wahi expresses love for Nice

Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi has expressed his delight at returning to OGC Nice, admitting that his relationship with the French club has developed naturally after receiving a warm welcome during his initial loan spell.

The striker rejoined Nice on another season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer transfer window, having spent the previous campaign with the Ligue 1 side.

Reflecting on his attachment to Nice, the Ivorian forward described his return as a pleasure, suggesting that the connection between him and the club was built on the positive experience he enjoyed during his first spell.

“In love? Yeah, you could certainly say that. I think I’ve landed on my feet. The city of Nice, the coaching staff, the management, the whole club, gave me a warm welcome last year too. And coming back is a real pleasure for me.

“Sometimes things just happen naturally, and I think that’s what clicked between Nice and me. And I’m very happy, in any case,” Wahi said.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a productive spell with Nice last season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist as the club battled to secure their Ligue 1 status.

His contributions proved important during a challenging campaign, and the club’s decision to bring him back for another season reflects their continued confidence in his ability to strengthen their attacking options.

Since returning, Wahi has scored once in five appearances, and he will be eager to improve his numbers as the season progresses.

The forward will also be hoping to build on the familiarity he has developed with the club, having already experienced its playing environment and the expectations that come with representing the French outfit.

For Nice, retaining Wahi for another campaign provides continuity in attack, while the striker has the opportunity to establish himself further and repay the club’s faith in him.

With the forward openly expressing his affection for the club, Nice will hope that his comfort and confidence translate into more goals and consistent performances throughout the season.
