Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare continues impressive run with seventh goal of the season for Ajax
Nigerian international Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive goalscoring form after netting in Ajax’s 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen in their Eredivisie Matchday Eight encounter.
The striker gave Ajax an early advantage at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday, rising above the NEC Nijmegen defence to power home a superb header in the seventh minute.
Arokodare’s effort highlighted his aerial ability and attacking instincts, providing Ajax with the perfect start as they looked to secure all three points and strengthen their position in the league standings.
The Nigerian forward dedicated his goal to teammate Kasper Dolberg, who has suffered a serious knee injury, in a gesture of support for the sidelined attacker.
However, Ajax’s lead lasted just 12 minutes as NEC Nijmegen responded through Tjaronn Chery, who calmly converted a penalty in the 19th minute to restore parity.
The equaliser brought renewed intensity to the contest, with both sides searching for a decisive breakthrough. Ajax pushed to regain their advantage, while NEC Nijmegen remained determined to leave Amsterdam with a positive result.
Despite their efforts, neither team managed to find a winner, forcing both sides to settle for a share of the spoils after an evenly contested encounter.
For Arokodare, the goal represents another encouraging contribution as he continues to make his mark in the Dutch top flight. His ability to deliver in front of goal will be an important asset for Ajax as they look to maintain consistency throughout the campaign.
The draw, however, leaves Ajax fifth in the Eredivisie standings with 15 points, five behind league leaders Feyenoord.
Ajax will now look to build on their attacking performance and address their defensive lapses as they continue their pursuit of the teams above them, while Arokodare will be hoping to maintain his scoring momentum in the coming fixtures.
