Simba SC end Young Africans’ Kariakoo Derby dominance with comeback win

Steve Barker’s Simba SC came from behind to defeat Young Africans in the Kariakoo Derby, ending their league hoodoo against their rivals and moving three points clear at the top.

Young Africans had arrived on a 13-match winning run and made the stronger start, taking the lead in the sixth minute.

Namibian international Peter Shalulile opened the scoring with his third goal in the colours of Young Africans, leaving Mngqithi’s side ahead at half-time.

The result left Barker with plenty to address during the interval, but Simba SC responded after the break with their title hopes at stake.

Their equaliser came in the 69th minute when Neo Maema, another former Mamelodi Sundowns player, scored his first goal of the season.

Young Africans had little time to recover. Just two minutes later, Simba SC completed the turnaround as Elie Mpanzu found the net for his second goal of the season.

The victory was Simba SC’s first league win against Young Africans since April 2023, giving Wekundu wa Msimbazi both the derby bragging rights and three important points.
