Yacine Titraoui returns to action as Lens beat Lyon
Yacine Titraoui has returned to competitive action for RC Lens after recovering from a hamstring injury that forced him to miss Algeria’s latest international training camp.
The midfielder started in Lens’ 2-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais on Friday as the French side opened the sixth round of Ligue 1 fixtures with three points.
Titraoui’s return marks an important step in his recovery after the injury ruled him out of Algeria’s preparations and matches against Zambia, Burundi and Niger. The midfielder had been working towards regaining his fitness and was handed a starting place as Lens secured a narrow win over Lyon.
The 21-year-old joined Lens from Paradou AC during the summer and will now look to build his match fitness as he settles into life at his new club.
His inclusion in the starting line-up by manager Yannick Cahuzac was an encouraging sign of the confidence the coaching staff have in him, despite his recent absence from competitive football.
However, Titraoui’s performance against Lyon was relatively quiet, with the midfielder still working his way back to his best level after spending time on the sidelines.
His return to the pitch will nevertheless be welcomed by both Lens and the player, who had missed the opportunity to feature for Algeria during the international break because of the hamstring problem.
The injury disrupted his preparations at a time when he was looking to establish himself at Lens following his summer move from Paradou AC. Missing the national team’s fixtures against Zambia, Burundi and Niger also meant he was unable to take part in Algeria’s latest international programme.
Returning to the starting line-up against Lyon provides Titraoui with an opportunity to regain rhythm and sharpness through regular competition.
For Lens, his availability offers another option in midfield as the club continues its Ligue 1 campaign. The coaching staff will hope the Algerian can gradually improve his performance levels as he gets more minutes on the pitch.
Although his display against Lyon was not particularly influential, the priority will be for the midfielder to continue progressing after his injury layoff.
The 2-1 victory also gave Lens a positive start to the sixth round of the league season, with Titraoui able to mark his return with a win.
The midfielder will now aim to build on that appearance, regain his best form and make a stronger contribution to Lens in the coming weeks.
