Jan Gyamerah nearing comeback for Elversberg

Jan Gyamerah is closing in on a return to action for SV Elversberg after making progress in his recovery from an adductor muscle injury.

The 31-year-old right-back has resumed training this week, boosting his chances of featuring in Saturday’s Bundesliga away match against Union Berlin. However, his availability is not yet guaranteed, with his fitness still needing to be assessed before the 15:30 kick-off.

Gyamerah sustained the injury during Elversberg’s goalless draw against Schalke, leaving the pitch in the 50th minute after experiencing discomfort in his right adductor area.

“Unfortunately, my thigh muscle seized up at Schalke,” the defender told Schaumburger Nachrichten when describing the problem.

The injury also forced Gyamerah to withdraw from Ghana’s squad for the international break. Instead of travelling, he remained in Germany to receive treatment and work towards regaining fitness ahead of the Bundesliga’s return.

“I used the break here in Germany to undergo treatment and then prepare for the Bundesliga again, once things get going there” he explained.

Gyamerah’s return would provide a welcome boost for Elversberg, given his importance on the right flank. He has made four Bundesliga appearances this season, recording one shot on target and 46 successful duels.

The final decision on his involvement against Union Berlin will depend on how he responds to training in the coming hours.
