The Confederation of African Football (CAF) could reverse its decision to hold the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) every four years, with the issue reportedly set to be discussed by the organisation’s executive committee.
Journalist Romain Molina says the possibility of returning to a tournament held every two years is expected to be considered by the committee.
CAF announced in December 2025 that the competition would move to a four-year schedule from 2028. The decision prompted debate over the future of Africa’s international football calendar and the place of the Africa Cup of Nations within the global game.
If the executive committee does examine the proposal, CAF could consider restoring the previous two-year cycle. However, the governing body has not officially confirmed any change to the tournament schedule.
