Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to include several of their recent Bafana Bafana internationals in the starting line-up for the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium tomorrow.
Coach Miguel Cardoso had 13 players away on international duty, and could select almost half of them from the start against their final opponents. Teboho Mokoena and Aubrey Modiba both returned with knocks, but each remains in contention after being assessed by Sundowns’ medical staff.
Ronwen Williams is set to retain his place in goal, with Thabang Matuludi, Grant Kekana, Khulumani Ndamane and Modiba expected to form the defence.
Modiba has trained with his team-mates this week, improving his prospects of starting at left-back. Mokoena’s involvement is less certain, however, with Sundowns expected to make a late decision on the midfielder.
The 30-year-old travelled with the squad to Durban, and Cardoso said earlier this week that the club would wait until the final moment before deciding whether the influential midfielder was fit enough to play.
Sundowns’ attacking options
If selected, Mokoena is likely to partner Marcelo Allende in midfield, while Cassius Mailula could operate in the number 10 role.
Tashreeq Matthews is expected to start on the left wing, with Siyanda Ndlovu a possible choice on the opposite flank.
Brayan Leon is the leading option to play up front. The Colombian has struggled for his best form this season, but continues to have Cardoso’s backing.
Sundowns’ possible starting line-up is: Ronwen Williams; Thabang Matuludi, Grant Kekana, Khulumane Ndamane, Aubrey Modiba; Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende; Tashreeq Matthews, Cassius Mailula, Siyanda Ndlovu; Brayan Leon.
