Youssouf Fofana on the radar of Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly preparing an approach for AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana as they consider strengthening their midfield during the January transfer window.

The Premier League side are interested in securing the 27-year-old Franco-Malian player, who is currently playing for Sevilla on loan from Milan until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Fofana has reportedly emerged as one of the targets identified by INEOS as Manchester United assess potential reinforcements for their squad. His performances in Spain, including a goal against Barcelona, are said to have attracted attention from the English club.

However, any potential deal could prove complicated because Fofana’s loan agreement with Sevilla reportedly contains neither an option nor an obligation to buy.

For Manchester United to secure his services in January, Milan would need to negotiate an early termination of the loan arrangement, potentially requiring financial compensation for Sevilla.

Such a move would depend on the willingness of the Italian club and Sevilla to reach an agreement that allows the midfielder to leave Andalusia before the end of his loan spell.

Fofana has made four appearances for Sevilla since joining the Spanish side and has scored once, with his performances helping to raise his profile amid reports of interest from Manchester United.

The midfielder could reportedly command a transfer fee of around €15 million, although no official offer or agreement has been confirmed.

Manchester United’s reported interest comes as the club continue to assess options to strengthen their midfield, with Fofana potentially offering experience, physicality and defensive quality in the centre of the pitch.
