Rayan Ait-Nouri is expected to resolve his dispute with the Algeria coaching staff and could return to the squad for the November international break.
The Manchester City defender was left out of the national team after a disagreement with Brahim Hemdani’s staff, but the latest developments suggest a reconciliation is close.
According to journalist Hafid Derradji, a meeting is due to take place shortly between Walid Sadi, president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), and Hemdani.
The same source reports that the dispute is approaching a definitive settlement. Ait-Nouri is expected to apologise to the technical staff, who are reportedly prepared to accept his apology. That would allow both parties to begin again on a new footing.
Both sides have an interest in reaching an agreement. At 25, Ait-Nouri remains one of Algeria’s most talented players, while the Fennecs would benefit from regaining a defender of his quality.
The former Wolverhampton full-back has also made only limited appearances at the start of the season. A role with the national team could therefore help him rebuild his confidence.
The potential resolution marks a significant change after several weeks of tension and uncertainty.
The dispute began on 25 September during Algeria’s 3-1 victory over Zambia, which was Hemdani’s first official match in charge.
Ait-Nouri started on the bench and became frustrated after being sent to warm up without eventually being introduced. Images of his reaction on the bench, including exchanges with manager Moussa Saib, quickly circulated on social media.
The following day, Hemdani removed the player from the squad, with the decision subsequently confirmed by the FAF. Ait-Nouri then missed the matches against Burundi and Niger.
Several accounts of the source and seriousness of the disagreement emerged afterwards. The player’s father referred to earlier tensions with Antar Yahia, while the coaching staff were reported to have made Ait-Nouri’s return dependent on an apology.
Asked about the matter on Tuesday, Hemdani declined to fuel speculation. He said the situation would be handled with discernment and that any decisions would be announced at the appropriate time.
The door was therefore not fully closed to Ait-Nouri, and the latest reports appear to reinforce the possibility of a peaceful solution.
If the reconciliation is completed, the Manchester City defender could be recalled by Algeria in November. His return has yet to be officially confirmed by the federation and the manager.
