Frosinone have extended Fares Ghedjemis’ contract until June 2030 after resisting approaches from AS Monaco and Besiktas for the Algeria international during a turbulent summer transfer window.
The Italian club have added two years to the 24-year-old forward’s agreement, confirming the deal after a period in which his departure appeared increasingly likely.
Ghedjemis has become an important asset for Frosinone following an impressive previous campaign. He scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 38 appearances, performances which prompted interest from elsewhere and led the club to take firm steps to retain him.
Both AS Monaco and Besiktas made moves for the player during the transfer window, as Africafoot previously reported exclusively. However, Frosinone’s management refused to soften its position and kept hold of the forward.
Difficult summer for Ghedjemis
The uncertainty surrounding his future affected Ghedjemis’ involvement with the first team. Frosinone’s coaching staff felt he was not fully focused and decided to leave him out of the squad until the transfer window closed.
The forward, who was born in Montreuil, did not return to his team-mates until the beginning of September. That delayed reintegration came too late for him to be selected by the Algeria manager for the international matches that followed.
Ghedjemis has made only three appearances in Serie A this season, a significant reduction in playing time after his 2023-24 campaign.
Frosinone’s next fixture is against Napoli in the sixth round of the Italian championship.
