Zamalek’s Mohamed Ibrahim nearing absence from Al Ahly derby

Zamalek defender Mohamed Ibrahim is close to missing Sunday’s Egyptian Premier League meeting with Al Ahly because of a knee injury.

The two Cairo rivals will meet on 11 October at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the league.

Ibrahim, a right-back, has suffered a knee bruise and is currently following a treatment and rehabilitation programme as he works towards a return to training. However, his availability for the derby remains increasingly unlikely.

The 21-year-old has made two appearances for Zamalek this season, both coming in the CAF Champions League against Port Djibouti.

Ibrahim was promoted to Zamalek’s first team last season and helped the club win the Egyptian Premier League title.

Zamalek and Al Ahly are level on 13 points in the league, although Zamalek sit above their rivals on goal difference. Pyramids lead the table with 15 points.
