Jamal Al-Salmi has been appointed the new head coach of Al Fateh, taking charge of the Saudi Pro League club after the dismissal of Khaled Al-Atwi.
Al Fateh confirmed the Moroccan’s arrival on Thursday, announcing that he would lead the first team for the remainder of the season. The club did not disclose the details of his contract, although previous media reports said Al-Salmi had agreed to stay until the end of the current campaign.
The appointment followed approval from the financial oversight department of the Saudi Pro League. Al Fateh also formally confirmed that Al-Atwi had been removed from his position.
Al-Salmi faces a difficult first match in charge, with Al Fateh due to host Al Ahli on Friday at Meydan Tamweel Aloula in Al-Ahsa in the eighth round of the Saudi Pro League.
The club have endured a poor start to the season and are 15th in the table with three points. Their total has come from three draws and four defeats, with Al Fateh still waiting for their first victory.
Al-Salmi arrives with considerable international experience. His most notable achievement came with the Jordan national team, whom he led to direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
That qualification was historic for Jordan, representing the first time the country had reached the World Cup finals.
