Mahmoud Ashour has submitted his resignation to the Egyptian Football Association board as he seeks to leave the referees’ committee, a source has told FilGoal.com.
Ashour is currently a member of the committee and is responsible for overseeing and developing the video assistant referee (VAR) system.
The source added that fellow committee member Mohamed El-Sabbahi would take charge of the VAR portfolio if Ashour’s departure is approved. No reason has been given for Ashour’s request to leave.
Essam Abdel-Fattah is chairman of the referees’ committee, assisted by Gamal El-Ghandour and Samir Osman. Mahmoud Ashour and Wegih Ahmed are also members.
Abdel-Fattah took over as chairman before the start of the season, following the departure of Colombian Oscar Ruiz.
