Bayern Munich ready to make move for Erling Haaland after Manchester City ruling

Bayern Munich are preparing a major bid for Erling Haaland if the Manchester City striker becomes available, with the possibility of a shock partnership alongside Harry Kane emerging after the club’s conviction on 114 financial misconduct charges.

Haaland, 26, signed a 10-year contract with Manchester City that runs until 2034. However, his future at Etihad Stadium has become uncertain following the ruling against the club.

Manchester City maintain their innocence and lodged an appeal against the conviction last week. But if the club are relegated to the second tier or below, regulations would give several of their leading players the right to terminate their contracts and seek opportunities elsewhere.

That possibility has prompted Bayern to consider a move for Haaland, according to reports in England. The German club are said to be ready to make a significant financial offer if the Norway international enters the transfer market.

European football expert Andy Brassell told The Sun that Bayern would make a strong attempt to sign Haaland if Manchester City’s relegation were confirmed.

“Before Haaland moved to City, Bayern made him a financial offer they had never previously made to any player, even though the prevailing view was that the club had moved beyond buying major stars in Germany,” Brassell said.

A move to Munich would be particularly surprising given Haaland’s three seasons with Bayern’s traditional rivals Borussia Dortmund before he left Germany for England.

The sporting appeal, however, would be considerable. Haaland could form a formidable attacking partnership with England captain Kane, 33, who is preparing to sign a new three-year contract with Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid also monitoring situation

Real Madrid are also expected to consider signing Haaland if Manchester City decide to sell him, despite the Spanish club’s current attacking options.

Brassell acknowledged that some observers would question where Haaland could fit into a Real Madrid side led by Kylian Mbappe, which is fourth in La Liga after seven matches.

“I know some people will look at the current Real Madrid team, led by Kylian Mbappe and sitting fourth in La Liga after seven matches, and ask where Haaland would fit,” Brassell said. “They would certainly find a place for him.”

For now, Manchester City are continuing to challenge the ruling through their appeal. But the prospect of relegation has created uncertainty around Haaland’s long-term future and placed Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on alert.
