Africa’s 2009-born football talents already attracting European attention

Africa’s footballers born in 2009 are beginning to make their mark at some of Europe’s leading academies, with several already involved in senior football. These are 15 of the most promising players from the generation, according to The Guardian.

Joshua Nga Kana The Cameroonian winger came through at Anderlecht and stands out for his energy, dribbling and versatility. Formerly a full-back, he can also play in midfield or on either flank. His willingness to take on opponents and create chances makes him one to watch.

Hubert Yao Kouassi San Pedro FC winger Hubert Yao Kouassi is the younger brother of former Cote d’Ivoire international Gervinho. He operates mainly on the left, where he looks to attack full-backs, stretch defences and use his pace. His displays have attracted interest from Nordsjælland, renowned for developing young African players, as reported exclusively by Africafoot.

Christ Batola The French-Congolese forward impressed with Troyes’ youth teams before being invited to train with Manchester City’s Under-19s. He was the leading scorer at the Tournoi de Montaigu and was also selected by France Under-17s for the World Cup. Powerful and clinical, he is regarded as one of the leading attacking prospects of his age group.

David Boly After moving from central defence to right-back, the Cote d’Ivoire-born player quickly progressed through Paris Saint-Germain. His performances in the UEFA Youth League earned him opportunities with the first team and in the Coupe de France, while several major European clubs have shown interest.

Adil Hamdani The Lyon winger made his Ligue 1 debut aged 16 and has impressed with his technique. He combines dribbling, close control and an ability to pick out team-mates at speed. With Algerian and Senegalese heritage, he is also attracting significant international interest.

Believe Munongo The powerful Democratic Republic of the Congo midfielder broke into Metz’s first team at 16 and became a Ligue 1 starter. He has also captained France Under-21s at the World Cup. Arsenal and Newcastle are monitoring his progress.

Cassiano Kiala The Angolan central defender has developed rapidly since joining Bayern Munich from Hertha Berlin. Mezian Mesloub The Lens attacking midfielder was called up by Portugal Under-21s aged 16, although he can also represent France or Algeria. He scored five seconds after coming on against Nantes for his first-team debut. Mesloub is part of the family of former Algeria international Walid Mesloub.

Slim Bouaskar Born and raised in Rome, the AS Roma goalkeeper has chosen Tunisia internationally. Standing 1.88m, he combines sharp reflexes, good reading of the game and confidence when claiming crosses, already producing notable displays for Tunisia’s youth teams.
