Renato Sanches linked with Sao Paulo move after leaving PSG

Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches, currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Sao Paulo in Brazil’s Serie A.

The 29-year-old central midfielder left Paris St-Germain on 1 September 2026 after returning from a loan spell at Panathinaikos. He made no appearances for PSG in the 2026-27 campaign before departing the French club.

Sanches spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Panathinaikos, following a temporary return to Benfica in 2024-25. His latest move would take him to Brazil for the first time, with Sao Paulo identified as the club interested in signing him.

The Portugal international began his senior career at Benfica and moved to Bayern Munich in 2016 after helping his country win the European Championship. He also won the Golden Boy award that year.

Sanches later joined Lille, where he won the French title in 2020-21, before moving to PSG in August 2022. His time in Paris included loan spells with Roma, Benfica and Panathinaikos.

He has a listed market value of €1.5m, down from a career high of €30m. His current status means any move to Sao Paulo would involve a player who is available outside a club contract, although the rumour does not include a reported fee or probability.
