Zamalek suspend football activities for three days after death of former striker Nasser Ibrahim
Zamalek have suspended all football activity at the club for three days following the death of former striker Nasser Ibrahim at the age of 67.
Nasser Ibrahim died on Wednesday after suffering a sudden health crisis. He represented Zamalek and Egypt and later served on the technical follow-up committee within the club’s football sectors.
The suspension began on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, and covers the club’s youth, junior, academy, preparatory and women’s football sections.
A statement from Zamalek’s football sectors, headed by Hazem Emam, said: “The management of the football sectors at Zamalek has decided to suspend activity across all football sectors at the club, including the youth sector, the junior sector, the academy, the preparatory sector and women’s football, for three days.”
It added: “This decision will take effect from Wednesday, 7 October 2026, as a mark of respect for the passing of Nasser Ibrahim, former Zamalek and Egypt player and a member of the technical follow-up committee in the football sectors.”
The statement concluded: “The management of the football sectors extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family and loved ones of the deceased, asking Almighty God to grant him abundant mercy, admit him to Paradise and give his family and relatives patience and strength.”
Zamalek’s board, led by Hussein Labib, also issued a separate message mourning the former player.
“Zamalek Club and its board of directors, headed by Hussein Labib, mourn with great sadness Nasser Ibrahim, the former star of the White Castle, who died on Wednesday morning,” the club said.
“The board of directors, together with all the club’s sports teams and technical staff, extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, asking Almighty God to grant him abundant mercy, admit him to Paradise and give his family and relatives patience and strength.”
Al Ahly also paid tribute to Nasser Ibrahim, mourning the former Zamalek player’s death.
Nasser Ibrahim spent 11 years with Zamalek between 1977 and 1988. He won the African Champions League in 1984 and 1986, and was one of the club’s most influential players in its first African title triumph.
He also helped Zamalek win the league three times, in the 1977-78, 1983-84 and 1987-88 seasons. The club won the Egypt Cup three times during his career, in 1977, 1979 and 1988.
Nasser Ibrahim retired at the age of 29 because of injury. After ending his playing career, he worked as a coach within Zamalek’s youth and junior sectors.
