Wydad face anxious wait over Al-Rashdan injury ahead of Meknes showdown
Wydad Athletic Club have been dealt a fresh injury setback ahead of their upcoming meeting with Meknes after Jordan international Nizar Al-Rashdan was forced off during a friendly against Venezuela.
The midfielder left the pitch in the 70th minute of Tuesday’s goalless draw after suffering an ankle injury following a challenge from a Venezuelan player.
Wydad are now waiting for the results of detailed medical examinations to determine the extent of the injury and how long Al-Rashdan could be unavailable.
Injury comes at a difficult time for Wydad
Al-Rashdan’s setback comes at a particularly important moment for the Moroccan club, who had been counting on the Jordanian midfielder to strengthen their options in the middle of the pitch.
His possible absence could be a significant concern for coach Paulo Sergio Brito as Wydad prepare for their anticipated fixture against Meknes.
The club’s supporters will also be hoping the injury is not as serious as initially feared, with the midfielder’s recovery timeline dependent on the outcome of his medical assessment.
Al-Rashdan had already missed two matches
The Jordan international has already been absent from Wydad’s opening two matches of the Professional League campaign.
He missed the victories against Wydad Temara and Difaa El Jadida in the first and second rounds respectively.
His latest injury could therefore delay his return to competitive action and leave Brito facing another selection problem in midfield.
Wydad await medical assessment
For now, the full extent of Al-Rashdan’s injury remains unclear.
Further medical examinations are expected to establish the nature and severity of the ankle problem, as well as provide an indication of how long the player could remain on the sidelines.
With the Meknes fixture approaching, Wydad will be hoping the injury does not result in a lengthy absence for the Jordan international.
