Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, has congratulated Saudi Arabia after its national team won the Arabian Gulf Cup football tournament, Gulf Cup 27.

Saudi Arabia defeated the United Arab Emirates 2-0 to claim the title and end a wait for Gulf Cup success dating back to 2003.

Writing on X on Tuesday evening, Sheikh Mohamed said: “I congratulate King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the brotherly Saudi people on winning the Arabian Gulf Cup football championship, Gulf Cup 27.”

He also praised the “outstanding performance and high sporting spirit” shown by both teams during the tournament.

Sheikh Mohamed commended the organisation of the competition and wished all the participating nations success in their future sporting events.

Although the United Arab Emirates were beaten in the final, the team produced an encouraging performance under new head coach Zlatko Dalic.

Dalic said several days before the final that returning the United Arab Emirates to the podium was the principal objective agreed with the UAE Football Association.
